Obituary

Widely known as the “Mayor of Marshfield,” Ted Matlak passed in his own home on September 18, 2018. Born on February 26, 1939, Ted was a lifelong Chicagoan who lived, worked and played in the City of the Big Shoulders. A graduate of St. Benedict's, Ted studied botany at DePaul University. Ted was a proud union (IBEW) member at Teletype, botanist, bartender, antique dealer, and even a mall Santa. He is survived by his beloved wife, Priscilla nee Gordon; son, Theodore Anthony Matlak II (former 32nd Ward Alderman); daughter, Alyse (Nick) Goodwin; grandchildren, Arden, Gunner, Emily and Aubrey; sister, Rosemary (Bill) Glaser; and hordes of admiring friends. Ted could always see the treasure in the trash. There may have been better men, but there were no better fathers. Ted will be waked on September 24, 2018 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm at Lakeview Funeral Home, 1458 W. Belmont, Chicago IL. Funeral Mass to be held on September 25, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Bonaventure's Oratory, 1641 W. Diversey Parkway, Chicago, IL.
