Obituary

Annie Rosita Brown, a long-time resident of Chicago, passed away at the age of 82 on Friday, October 13, 2017. She was born Annie Rosita Mathis in East Saint Louis, IL. Annie married Dr. Edward Brown. Although Annie and Edward divorced, Annie was a wonderful and dedicated mother to her two children. Annie graduated from Illinois State University in Bloomington, IL. Later, she obtained her Master’s Degree from Chicago State University and her PhD from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She worked most of her teaching career at Madison Elementary School, located on the South Side of Chicago, where she also served as Assistant Principal from 1989-1997. She was a beloved teacher and made innumerous friends at Madison. She was a life-long Baptist and taught Sunday school. Annie loved art, opera, and traveling. She traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Annie is survived by her daughter Gina and her son Matthias, who are both attorneys. She is also survived by her siblings: Barbara Dameron-Bell, Christine McGruder, Clifford Mathis, Lovey Walker, and Thelma Evans, MD, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 10 am to noon on October 28, 2017 at Lakeview Funeral Home, located at 1458 West Belmont Ave, Chicago, IL 60657. The funeral service will begin at noon.
