Obituary

Virgilio Escárcega Prieto, age 52, passed away on May 10th last, succumbing to a well-fought battle against cancer. The son of Mr. Everardo Escarcega Lopez and Mrs. Estela Prieto Duarte, Virgilio was born in Parral (Chihuahua, Mexico) although he grew up most of the first part of his life in Mexico City, where he graduated from the National University of Mexico’s College of Veterinary Medicine. It was his wish to seek a better future for himself (as well as the woman who would later become his wife, Estela Luengas Solano) that drove both of them to Chicago, where he eventually made a name for himself in this town’s thriving restaurant industry. When he left us, he was working at Buddy Guy’s Legends, in downtown Chicago. Apart from his wife, Virgilio is survived by his daughter Frida, his brother Ulises, and his mother Estela. May he rest in peace. Funeral services: Memorial visitation at Lakeview Funeral Home: Wednesday, May 17, 4:00-9:00 pm (1458 W. Belmont Ave., Chicago, 773-472-6300). Memorial service at Queen of Angels Church: Thursday, May 18, 11:00 am (2330 W. Sunnyside Ave., Chicago, 773-539-7510). Burial service at Queen of Heaven Cemetery: Thursday, May 18, 1:30 pm (1400 S. Wolf Rd. Hillside, 708-449-8300).
