Obituary
Donald Sinclair, M.D., age 79, of Chicago, passed away March 15, 2017. He was a well-respected anesthesiologist at the University of Chicago who began his practice in South Africa and Holland. Near the end of his career, his work focused on novel approaches to pain management and he was sought after as a mentor to others.
Donald was born in East London, South Africa. He attended the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg where he qualified as a neurosurgeon. During the dark days of the apartheid regime in South Africa, he interned in a large hospital in the township of Soweto. His decision to leave South Africa was influenced by the racial attitude of the government at the time. Despite leaving, Donald loved Africa especially the landscape and wildlife and he returned many times during his life.
He is survived by his beloved husband David Hayashi whose relationship spans 40 years. He was the fond brother of Diana (Philip) Loots of Australia. Donald will be dearly missed by his many friends and family all over the world who loved his generosity, curiosity and his passion books, food, music and life. His stories are his most precious gift.
Visitation will be from 1-6 p.m. with a time of sharing at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Lakeview Funeral Home, 1458 W. Belmont Avenue in Chicago. Info – 773-472-6300 or www.LakeviewFuneralHome.com.
