Obituary

Mac Makoto Kawamura, 94, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2016 in Chicago, his hometown since the late 1940s. He was born in Iwate Prefecture, Japan but his family relocated to the United States when he was very young allowing him to grow up in Seattle, Washington. Mac was evacuated to the Minidoka Relocation Camp in Idaho in 1942 with many other Japanese when World War II broke out. After the War, he moved to Chicago where he met and married Alice (nee Mukai, deceased) his beloved wife for over fifty-three years. Mac and Alice shared a love for adventurous travel and experienced many interesting destinations such as the Trans-Siberian Railroad, Komodo Island, the Galapagos and Nepal. He was a supportive and encouraging father to Ami and Jon, and father-in-law to Liz, and a loving grandfather to Caitlin and Mari. His family will greatly miss his sense of humor, solid character, adventurous spirit, and love of ice cream.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 on Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Lakeview Funeral Home.
