Obituary
Robert Barry Holcomb died of complications due to cancer on February 28, 2016 in Chicago, IL. He was 67.
Bob was born on December 28, 1948 in Omaha, NE. He grew up in Chicago and attended Lane Tech High School before attending and graduating from Southern Illinois University. He married Mary Fioretti in 2005, and the two resided in Orland Hills.
Bob (Barry, to many) was a man of incredible presence, intelligence, and humor. He was a fluent speaker of Japanese after teaching himself the language as a young man, a collector of antiques, Japanese pottery, and watches, an avid and talented landscape photographer, an outdoorsman and environmentalist, and a practical joker and “class clown.” He will be sorely missed by those who knew him.
Bob is survived by his wife Mary; his daughters Suzanne Manella (Donald), Katie Balogh (Edward Jr.), and Amy Holcomb, from his first marriage; stepchildren Anna Fioretti-Grosso (Michael) and Frank Fioretti; and grandchildren Jack and Julia Manella, Edison, Emilia, and Oliver Balogh, and Dylan Grosso. He is preceded in death by his mother, Emi Holcomb, and many beloved members of his extended family.
Visitation from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Lakeview Funeral Home, 1458 W. Belmont Ave., Chicago. Info - 773-472-6300 or www.lakeviewfuneralhome.com. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bob’s life. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the National Park Foundation.
