Dear Kristine, Adam, Robby, Skyler, Mr. Hallowell,

Rev. Patti and I are devastated to know of Ray’s untimely passing.

Every family has witnessed and benefitted from Ray’s compassionate care and service in providing comfort and guidance through the difficult and delicate process of memorials and funerals. He was so cooperative with The Buddhist Temple of Chicago and other churches and likewise with non church-affiliated families that this is indeed a grave loss to the community at large. Serving on the Funeral Committee at BTC on so many occasions over decades, I have had the privilege of working first hand with him in this regard, with my own family and with temple families and can attest to his exemplary representation of the highest ideals of his profession. His humanity is legendary and will be sincerely missed.

Rev. Patti is out of country and I have another funeral to attend on Saturday morning on the south side, but I will be there Friday evening for the visitation. If there is anything that I can do in this time of your bereavement, please do not hesitate to call on me.

Please know that your many friends send their prayers for your peace and comfort.

Sincerely,

Gary T. Nakai and Rev. Patti Nakai, Resident Minister, The Buddhist Temple of Chicago

I was so sorry to hear of Ray’s passing. He was certainly a kind & caring person and the world will be a little dimmer without his light to shine on. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

To Kris and family,

We are so sorry for your loss, a great man indeed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this very difficult time. Martin just turned to me said, “I never saw that guy in a bad mood. I will always remember how crazy he was and how much fun he had at that Christmas pancake breakfast.”

You and Ray were always so supportive and friendly of us and our business just a few doors down. We’ll be there for you as well on Friday and Saturday.

All our love,

Martin and Denise Cody
