Carroll, Dr. Katherine T.

Age 66, born, May 18, 1948, passed away Saturday, June 14, after a difficult battle with cancer. She leaves behind her dear daughter Elizabeth G. Nerat, fond sister Mary A. Carroll, and colleagues, students, relatives, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Mary T. (Lavin) and Laurence J. Carroll, infant brother Laurence, and other older relatives. The family appreciates the support of Cynthia Comstock, Terry and Chuck Friedman, Patricia Bollin, and Russ Bambino, and of the staffs of Horizon Hospice and Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital.
Kate grew up in South Shore, graduating from St. Philip Neri and Aquinas Dominican High School. She graduated from Mundelein Weekend College, then earned a master’s degree in history at Roosevelt University and a Ph.D. in education at Loyola University Chicago. Kate taught a variety of courses at Loyola, Concordia University, and ORT; she also published a number of academic articles and a book analyzing use of postmodern constructs in comparative education studies. Kate was also an accomplished artist.
