Obituary

Gary Karl Hansen
12/23/14 - 04/04/14

Gary Karl Hansen was born on December 23, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois to Gladys Margaret Wallgren and Carl Hansen. His favorite memories consisted of the many summers spent in Spirit/Tomahawk, Wisconsin with his adored grandparents Carl Wallgren and Nickolene Jacobson, his aunts, uncle, and many cousins. He felt fortunate to be the last of the grand kids to witness the Swedish Christmas tree lit with real candles. His love for the outdoors and animals were solidified by these beautiful experiences with his family in Wisconsin during winter and summer breaks.

During high school, he played in the Drum and Bugle Corp. After graduating from Evanston Township, he honorably served the Air Force receiving medals for Good Conduct and Outstanding Unit. His patriotism carried over into his political life as a proud Republican, serving as an election judge at every election, canvassing and even running for office.

Gary was a lifelong lover of martial arts, having studied in Okinawa and obtained second degree black belt in Karate. His many past times included photography, mechanics, camping, music, pet enthusiast, and all things Scandinavian. Being an avid speed reader, he was a walking encyclopedia and captivating storyteller.

He married Vilma Buleje and a couple of years later, they welcomed Gladys. He was a good step-father to James who later followed his footsteps into the military.

Gary Karl will be missed by his many friends, his surviving daughter, Gladys, son-in-law Gustavo, four grandchildren: Sebastian, Natalia, Nicholas & Natalia, stepson James, ex-wife Vilma, his Aunt Florence and his many cousins and relatives in Wisconsin, Michigan and Indiana.
