Omar Masayuki Kaihatsu, 88 years, died February 13, 2014. Beloved father of Donald, Jane (Jack Kleisner), Edward (Jean), Nancy, and Anne Kaihatsu. Dear brother of Martha, Francis (Catherine) and the late Arthur (Lillian) and Gordon Kaihatsu. Devoted uncle of Tim, Lynn Kaihatsu of San Diego, CA and Christopher Kaihatsu; Grandfather of Kenji, Anjolie and Malia Kaihatsu. Omar was born on Nov. 1, 1925 in Hollywood, CA. He attended Hollywood H.S. (1939-41) until the outbreak of WW II when his family was interned at Heart Mountain Relocation Center in Wyoming; he graduated high school there in 1943. During WW II, Omar served in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Platoon in Europe. Following his military service, Omar went to Chicago where his family had moved after their release from Heart Mountain. He received a B.S. in Accounting from Roosevelt University in 1951. He worked for Sara Lee Co. and then began his career in insurance sales in 1959, eventually opening the Omar Kaihatsu Insurance Agency. Omar also operated the Japanese Cinema (1966-79) which showed Japanese-language films on weekends at the Francis W. Parker School in Chicago. Omar was on the boards on the Jpn American Service Committee and Jpn American Citizens League and a member of the National Association of Life Underwriters (NALU) and Lions Club Intl.
