Life long Boy Scout and Scout Leader.
Member, Elder and Deacon of the Northminster Presbyterian Church of Evanston.
Loving son of the late Adolf and Christine Hanson.
Devoted uncle of
Cindy (Warren) Carpenter, Gloria (Doug) Denning and Roger Juhl.
In lieu of flowers,

IN MEMORIAM--OLAF HANSON
We are saddened to report the death of long-time Scouter Olaf Hanson. Although his exact age is uncertain, he was nearly 100 years old.
Although he had been retired for several years, Ole had been a chemical engineer who held several patents. Ole never married and had been living in a retirement home in Oak Park since his retirement about 10 years ago. He is survived by a niece.
As a young boy, Ole wanted nothing more than to be a Boy Scout but unfortunately was too young. So he would follow along behind Scout patrols as they went on campouts and activities. This earned him the nickname "Tagalong" from the Scouts at the time.
Eventually, the Scouts and Leaders relented and allowed Ole to un-officially participate despite not being old enough at the time. Ole's love for Scouting never died and he was active as a Scout until he became too old to participate as a youth. This did not stop Ole who simply became a leader. His tenure lasting until his retirement.
Ole first camped at Owasippe in 1922 and was a legend in Chicago Area Council for both his dedication and longevity. During District Dinners in Fort Dearborn District, Ole reveled in being the oldest active leader in the District during the annual Calling of the Years.
During his long tenure as a Scout leader, Ole coached and counseled thousands of Scouts and his dedication to the Scouting program will not soon be forgotten. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Gary Wayne Adams wanted this posted to facebook. This is a very sad day!!! Olie Hansen. Born Feb. 13th in the early part of the 1900's died October 26th, 2013. He was a retired chemical engineer. He and another engineer share the patent for putting octane in gasoline. He has been in boy scouts since the 1920's. He was adored and loved by 1000's of scouts/others from Minnesota to Chicago and other states. He was a fine example of a man, a mentor, and a friend. He was my friend and sorely will be missed. He is being cremated and will have no service. So if you would, please leave a comment and/or a memory of this truly great man and his memory. He will be remembered for his courageous smile, his red beret among many other wonderful things. The earliest picture I have of Olie is dated 1926 from Chicago on Big Blue Lake by camp BlackHawk where he at least had to be 11 years old or so. Olie attended the Chicago's World Fair in 1933 as a boy scout who had traveled around with his notebook, reporting everything he had saw as it was going on to radio WGN. I would like to say goodbye to my friend whom will sorely be missed!!! Todd Griglin, Dan Blanco, Devlin Schoop, Robert Jablonski, Jeffery Gooch, Adam Hallowell, Frank Horvath, and all the other scouts and/or persons out there that knew him.
