Obituary

Mary Pond, 75, passed peacefully away on March 23, 2013.

Mary was a native Chicagoan, born into a large, boisterous family in Bucktown including Jack Robinson, (Lorene), Richard Robinson, Julie Rohner, Brian Robinson, and preceded in death by her parents William and Ruth Robinson, and siblings James Robinson, Carole Kermish and Barbara Robinson.

As a young woman, Mary worked scooping ice cream at Margie’s Candies and painting stripes on bicycles at the Schwinn factory. She was a competitive jitter-bugger and roller skater at Riverview Roller Rink, artist, reader and lover of history, but her proudest accomplishment was her family.

Mary taught her children, Michelle Weiner, Laurence Milkovic, (Linda) and Gary Pond, (Margaret) the value of education, hard work and fair play by example, yet always made time for prize-winning Halloween costumes and a signature homemade cookie for each child.

To her grandchildren, Nathan Weiner, April Milkovic, Daniel Weiner, Michael Milkovic and Madelyn Pond, she imparted a sense of adventure and absolute devotion… and more special cookies. She attended their athletic events, school plays, recitals and spelling bees with outrageous enthusiasm and unabashed bias.

Her creative and loving spirit will be missed.

In gratitude for the exceptional end-of-life care afforded Mary, donations may be directed in her memory to the Nursing Education Endowment Fund at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center:

My deepest sympathy to the entire family. I never had an opportunity to meet Mary, but what a lovely tribute you've written and what beauty and sense of spirit she imparted to Michelle.
May you all find peace in the good memories she has left behind.

You are all in our thoughts and prayers as you mourn the death of your mother and grandmother. As her life's journey comes to its conclusion, she lives on in your own creativity, enthusiasm and love for family. Cherish her memory until you are reunited at the last. God's blessings and comfort to you.

Larry and Family In reading about your mother, she sounded like the kind of Mother and Grandmother anyone would have been fortunate to have, the adventurous spirit will live on through you and your children I am sure. Our prayers will be with you

Just hearing the name Mary Pond conjures memories of visits to the Weiner Family Home with Mamma Mary popping in to “tell us something” in that raspy voice behind those glasses and sweet smile. Heaven is surely a better place with her arts and crafts decorations. Love to you Michelle, Nathan and Daniel…our blended family. With fond thoughts and wishes for comforting peace through our Savior. Love, Val, David and Kayla

Michelle, Larry & Gary,

So sorry for your loss. Your mom was always a hoot, and fun to be around. She always put up with the invasion of your home by Michelle’s friends. She will be missed.

There are some things in life that we may never understand but everything happens for a reason.
Love yourself right now and don't forget to be kind to your heart God will handle the rest.
