Obituary
Paul Anthony DeTrano, 36, of Chicago, died Sunday, Sept 2 in Holland MI, the result of accidental drowning.
He was born to Valerie and Mario DeTrano, January 14, 1976, in Canton OH. Paul graduated from Jackson High School in 1994 and received a B.A. in Economics from Kenyon College in 1998. He was a J.D. candidate at Chicago-Kent College of Law, expected in December 2012.
Paul worked as a Senior Analyst, Defined Benefits for Xerox Services for the past five years, and worked as a Lead Analyst, Defined Benefits for Aon Hewitt from 1998 to 2007. Paul planned to dedicate his law practice to labor and employment issues, and was looking forward to starting this endeavor.
Paul was a beloved resident of the Edgewater neighborhood community. He was an avid runner, and ran the Chicago marathon twice. He loved to travel, both internationally and within the states. He is remembered best for his quick wit, great story-telling and easy-going, generous spirit. To say that he will be sorely missed is a vast understatement. He made friendships easily and touched the lives of many. In the words of his brother Marc :“The biggest risk in life, is that you’ll waste it. Paul traveled the world, studied, had a good job, and did not live a life stuck in “the closet.” He got to do this thing his way, and along the way he made some great friends.”
Paul is survived by his parents, Mario and Valerie DeTrano, brother Marc, sister-in-law Ana Catalina and nephew Esteban. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to AIDS Foundation of Chicago (www.aidschicago.org and Ronald McDonald House (rmhccni.org).
A memorial will be held on Saturday, September 8 at Lakeview Funeral Home, 1458 W Belmont Ave, Chicago IL 60657. Visitation will begin at 1 pm with service at 1:30.
