Obituary

James Michael Furner, 64, of Chicago and formerly of Palatine, beloved husband of Sylvia (Eisenstein) for 44 years, committed father of Christine, Tracy (Simon) Stein and Brian (Bethany Elkington) and most cherished "Papa" of Evan and Audrey Stein. Brother of Richard (Renate) Furner and Robert (Bonnie) Furner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Geraldine (Ryan) and Harry James Furner. Fond uncle and cousin to many and friend to everyone he met. Jim spent his career in advertising, working for over 10 years at Allstate Insurance followed by over 20 years with Wickes Furniture. He found his greatest joys in retirement as a grandfather and in travels to Tanzania where he fell in love with the country and the people of the Kibaoni Primary School. Visitation will be held at the Lakeview Funeral Home at 1458 West Belmont on Monday from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Funeral mass will be said at St. Benedict Church at 2215 West Irving Park Road at 10:30 am on Tuesday, followed by burial at Graceland Cemetery at 4001 N. Clark Street.
